The Hiawatha Valley EAA Chapter 1518 continues the long history of the Hiawatha Valley Pilots Association that started at RGK in 1973. The Hiawatha Valley Pilots Association has had a very active membership for over forty years and in 2010 had a membership of about 30 pilots. For many years the association has been concerned about the declining number of general aviation pilots in the country and has been looking for ways to attract new pilots.
In 2010 we became an EAA Chapter to take advantage of the many great programs that are designed to build the pilot population. Two of these programs are the Young Eagles Program (ages 8-17) and the Eagle Flight Program (for adults).
Chapter 1518 meets the first Saturday of the month throughout the year. If the first Saturday falls on a holiday weekend, the meeting will be on the second Saturday of the month. Regular meetings start at 9:30 Am and are usually over by 11:00.
Many months during the year the chapter has special events that take the place of the regular monthly meeting. Some of these events are;
· FAA Wings Seminar
· FAA Facility tours
· Annual Pancake Breakfast (Last weekend of July or first weekend of August)
· Fly-outs for breakfast or dinner
· Fall Bar-B-Que
· Winter Dinner
