More than 1.6 million Young Eagle Flights have been conducted in the last 20 years through out the United States.
Red Wing EAA Chapter 1518 is an active participant in the Young Eagle Program. Each summer Chapter 1518 conducts monthly Young Eagle Rallies at the Red Wing Airport to give children from the age of 8 to 17 an introduction to flying.
All of the Red Wing EAA pilots are experienced licensed pilots who's objective is to give the Young Eagle a safe and very positive introduction to flying.
All of the aircraft flown are FAA licensed and annually inspected. Only FAA certified "airworthy" aircraft are used in the Young Eagle Program.
When you get to the airport you will be checked in, your Young Eagle Registration Form and Parental Concent Form will be reviewed for completeness.
Usually there will be a short video about the Young Eagle Program
The Young Eagles and parents will be given a tour of the airport and questions about General Aviation will be answered.
The Young Eagles will be paired with an experienced Young Eagle Pilot and the Young Eagles will help with the preflight inspection of the airplane. Usually chapter 1518 YE Pilots will talk one or two Young Eagles at a time on a 15-20 minute flight around the Red Wing area. The intent is to give the Young Eagle a very positive introduction to flight.
All Young Eagle Flights are conducted only in good weather conditions. We will not conduct any flights when the safety officer feels that the ceilings are to low or the winds are to strong. Again a bumpy ride would not be a good first flight experience and we want only positive flights for the Young Eagle.
If a Rally is cancelled due to weather the Young Eagle is encouraged to sign up for a future rally.
